08/10/2024 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday 8 October, the European Parliament approved (632 votes in favour, 7 against and 3 abstentions) the mobilisation of more than €1 billion in aid from the ‘European Union Solidarity Fund’ for five EU countries following the severe flooding in 2023 (see EUROPE 13469/1). For Italy, €378.8 million is earmarked for the Emilia-Romagna region and €67.8 million for the Tuscany region. The remainder of the aid is distributed as follows: €428.4 million for Slovenia, €5.2 million for Austria, €101.5 million for Greece and €46.7 million for France. The aid will finance part of the costs of emergency and reconstruction operations, such as repairing damaged infrastructure, safeguarding cultural heritage and carrying out clean-up operations. (LC)
