On Tuesday 8 October, the European Commission published its latest report on the short-term outlook for agricultural markets in the European Union, confirming that EU cereals production in 2024/2025 will be 260.9 million tonnes, around 7% below the five-year average. The crops most affected by the fall are soft wheat and maize.
In 2024/2025, olive oil production should return to average levels of 2 million tonnes, after two years of low production and record prices.
EU wine production is set to fall slightly year-on-year, remaining 7% below the five-year average.
Milk supply in the EU is set to increase slightly in 2025.
EU beef production is set to fall by 1% in 2025, while pigmeat production is set to fall slightly (-0.5% in 2024 and -0.2% in 2025). In contrast, the EU poultry sector is expected to see a 4% growth in production and a 3% increase in exports in 2024 (with this upward trend set to continue in 2025).
