In an opinion paper published on Tuesday 1 October, BSA, an alliance of major proprietary software manufacturers, calls on the G7 members and the EU to harmonise security standards for cloud computing.
The document is based on the premise that the global development of certification requirements for security in cloud services can create difficulties for service providers because of the disparity between the standards in place.
According to BSA, the G7 should launch an initiative to mutually recognise the different certification systems and agree on the compatibility of these certifications in each G7 partner country.
“In an environment where the cloud is the essential backbone for AI and digital transformation, a shared approach to cloud certification will improve security and reduce costs”, the paper reads.
On the EU side, the EUCS (European Union Cybersecurity Certification Scheme on Cloud Services) project is still on hold (see EUROPE 13451/10), with the final details of the text criticised by France, which is keen to safeguard its own national system.
