On Friday 6 September, the Slovenian media reported that the government of Robert Golob (Renew Europe) had officially agreed to change its choice of European Commissioner, replacing the current candidate, Tomaž Vesel, with a female candidate.
According to 24ur.com, the re-elected President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, was not satisfied with the Slovenian government’s initial proposal.
Robert Golob “today accepted Tomaž Vesel’s resignation from his candidacy for the post of European Commissioner”, confirmed the Slovenian media, citing an official press release from the Prime Minister.
“Tomaž Vesel withdrew from the candidacy because of differences of opinion on the functioning of the future composition of the European Commission, which arose from a conversation between him and the President of the Commission”, explained the Prime Minister.
A new female candidate would bring the number of women in the future College of Commissioners to 11. According to European media reports, Malta could also reconsider its choice of Glenn Micallef and propose a female candidate. (Original version in French by Solenn Paulic)
