06/09/2024 (Agence Europe) – On Friday 6 September, the European Commission announced that it had approved a Danish scheme with a budget of around €53 million to support more climate-friendly milk production. By reducing methane emissions, dairy production will contribute to the national objective of reducing greenhouse gas emissions from the agricultural and forestry sectors. Farmers who commit to reducing their methane emissions beyond the mandatory standards will be eligible for additional aid. This aid will take the form of direct subsidies for farmers. This State aid scheme is in line with the objectives of the common agricultural policy (CAP) to promote climate objectives and the ‘Farm to Fork Strategy’. Approved under EU state aid rules, the scheme will run until 31 December 2027. (FS)
