06/09/2024 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday 5 September, the spokesperson for the European External Action Service (EEAS), Nabila Massrali, posted on X that the European Union was concerned by reports that Chinese citizen journalist Zhang Zhan had once again been arrested and detained at the Shanghai Pudong detention centre. This latest incarceration comes less than four months after her release from prison on 13 May, following her first arrest in 2020 for covering the start of the Covid-19 pandemic in Wuhan. “We call for her immediate and unconditional release and reiterate our concerns for her wellbeing and health”, declared Ms Massrali.
