24/07/24 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday 23 July, the EU and Cabo Verde officially signed a new protocol implementing the five-year Fisheries Partnership Agreement between the parties. The agreement will give 56 fishing vessels from EU Member States access to Cabo-Verde waters. The new protocol has applied provisionally since 23 July and will come into force as soon as the ratification process by both parties has been completed, which for the EU implies the approval of the European Parliament (the Council of the EU has already ratified the texts recently). The provisional application allows the resumption of fishing activities by EU vessels in Cabo-Verde waters after a short period of interruption since 19 May 2024, when the previous protocol expired (see EUROPE 13428/14).
