On Monday 22 July, the European Commission launched a call for tenders for the creation of a European Expert Network on Culture (EENC). This independent network will support the Directorate-General for Education, Youth, Sport and Culture (DG EAC) in the development of cultural policies.
The EENC will address the social, economic and external dimensions of culture, in line with EU priorities such as the digital transformation, the green transition and cultural diversity.
Its tasks will include producing briefing notes, analytical reports and mapping studies, as well as providing expertise at meetings of experts from EU countries.
Topics will include the impact of climate change on cultural heritage, the effects of artificial intelligence and the precarious working conditions of artists. The network will advise the European Commission on how to integrate cultural considerations into other relevant policies.
Bids must be submitted by 23 September via the EU’s tenders portal. The network will run for 48 months to meet evolving political needs and priorities.
