11/07/24 (Agence Europe) – On the occasion of the 29th anniversary of the Srebrenica genocide, the High Representative for Foreign Affairs, Josep Borrell, and the Commissioner for Enlargement, Olivér Várhelyi, have issued a joint statement to honour the memory of the victims of this “dark moment in modern European history”. This massacre, which left 8,000 dead in 1995, is still sometimes denied by some Serbian ultranationalists. “We call upon the leaders to reject divisive rhetoric and act with truth, justice, trust, and dialogue. There is no place amongst us for those who deny genocide, attempt to rewrite history, and glorify war criminals”, states the press release. Last March, the EU27 decided to open EU accession negotiations with Bosnia and Herzegovina (see EUROPE 13376/2). (IS)
