On Wednesday, 10 July, the European Commission opened a public consultation—which will run until 13 September 2024—in order to establish a list of priority areas to be included in the development of network codes for gas and electricity in accordance with Regulations (EC) 715/2009 and (EU) 2019/943.
It is thus asking stakeholders to share their opinions on priorities for gas network codes and guidelines for 2024 and for electricity network codes and guidelines for 2024–2027. It also invites them to express their thoughts regarding the need for and the potential scope of new codes and guidelines for the electricity network beyond 2027.
As for the rules for electricity networks, the European Commission is going to prioritise revising the Capacity Allocation and Congestion Management Guideline (‘CACM GL’), the Forward Capacity Allocation Guideline (‘FCA GL’), and the grid connection codes during the 2024–2027 period.
In addition, harmonised electricity rules on flexible demand are currently being drawn up. The European Commission plans to adopt the network code in the course of 2025.
