On Wednesday 10 July, ENTSO-E, the European Network of Transmission System Operators for Electricity, presented its Roadmap for Research, Development and Innovation (RDI) 2024-2034, outlining the steps needed to transform Europe’s energy system into a sustainable, flexible and digitalised model, in line with the EU’s climate and energy objectives.
“At the dawn of this new European mandate, we look forward to a renewed European strategic agenda to drive forward the transformation of our energy sector towards the goal of continuing to work for a more affordable, secure and sustainable energy for Europe”, explained ENTSO-E in a statement.
The roadmap sets out a ten-year mission to overcome the current challenges and details the long-term investment and technology objectives to achieve a carbon-neutral Europe.
It presents three RDI Clusters (Power Grids, Digitalised power systems and a One-System of integrated systems) and six missions with over 90 milestones to drive the evolution of the energy system.
