03/07/2024 (Agence Europe) – The permanent representatives of the governments of the member states to the EU (‘Coreper’) made four appointments to the Court of Justice of the European Union on Wednesday 3 July. Lithuanian judge Irmantas Jarukaitis has been reappointed for a further six years. The former Deputy Director-General of the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Competition, Bernardus Smulders (Dutch), and the former judge to the EU General Court, Fredrik Schalin (Swedish), have been appointed judges to the Court of Justice with effect from 7 October 2024, for a term of six years. Finally, the Lithuanian Rimvydas Norkus has been appointed Advocate-General of the Court of Justice, and will also serve for a term of six years. (LM)
