European University Institute in Florence draws initial conclusions from opinions expressed through EU&I 2024 app

The team of researchers from the Robert Schuman Centre at the European Institute in Florence who developed the EU&I 2024 app compared the programmes of the European political parties and the opinions expressed on European issues by almost 150,000 users of the app (see EUROPE 13412/25).

While warning that the panel of users was not representative of all European citizens, the researchers noted similarities in the positions of the two categories. For example, 80% of users of the app and 74% of European parties reject any restriction on the right to abortion. Furthermore, 80% of users of the app and 70% of European parties approve of strengthening the EU’s security and defence policy.

With regard to the Member States’ right of veto in the EU Council, around half of the European political parties and users of the app who took a position are opposed to reducing a country’s ability to block a political decision on its own. On environmental issues, a small majority of European parties and users of the app are in favour of supporting renewable energies and using taxation to encourage cleaner public transport.
