Brussels, 03/06/2024 (Agence Europe) – On 31 May, the European Commission launched a compliance procedure as part of its World Trade Organization (WTO) dispute with Colombia. The EU considers that Bogota is still not complying with the ruling handed down by the WTO’s alternative appellate body in December 2022 concerning tariffs on Belgian, Dutch and German frozen fries (see EUROPE 13089/4). While Colombia has modified its tariffs following the WTO ruling, the methodology used to do so does not comply with the rules, according to the European Commission. The two parties now have 15 days for consultations, after which the EU may request the establishment of a “compliance panel”. If the panel rules in Colombia’s favour, the EU could impose countermeasures on Colombia under its Trade Compliance Regulation. (Original version in French by Léa Marchal)
