In a joint statement published on Thursday 30 May, a dozen European start-up associations have joined forces to call for a more “inclusive” and “integrated” Europe, particularly when it comes to technological innovation.
The signatories include start-up associations from nine EU countries, including Germany, France, Poland and Finland, as well as a number of founders, such as Frédéric Mazzella of BlaBlaCar, and Ana Maiques, co-founder of Neuroelectronics.
The aim of this initiative is to call for a Europe that is more committed to the growth of technology companies, green policies, international cooperation, attracting global talent and, in general, to demand a more ambitious and long-term vision of Europe as a digital and innovative reference territory.
To this end, the associations are calling for a more integrated single market, “where people and companies can succeed without having to move abroad” for lack of a suitable environment.
“Europe needs to support innovators not just with rules, but with concrete private and public investments and proactive strategies for technological development and transfer beyond national interests”, say the signatories.
With one week to go before the elections, the associations believe that it is time for Europe to “turn from a regulatory power to a brave innovation superpower which relies on an open society for people around the world”.
