30/05/2024 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday, 28 May, Honduras and the European Union held the first session of their bilateral consultations under the memorandum of understanding that they signed in July 2023 on the sidelines of the EU-CELAC [Community of Latin American and Caribbean States] Summit (see EUROPE 13224/1). On the European side of things, European External Action Service (EEAS) Deputy Managing Director for the Americas Pelayo Castro stressed how important it is for the EU to effect bilateral cooperation based on sustainable development and shared values, such as the rule of law and human rights, according to an EEAS press release. On a regional level, Honduras currently holds the CELAC presidency. (MB)
