On Wednesday 22 May, the Committee of Permanent Representatives of the Member States to the EU (Coreper) gave the go-ahead for tariff increases on a number of agricultural products imported from Russia and Belarus (see EUROPE 13377/1). On Thursday 30 May, EU trade ministers will be asked to adopt the regulation amending customs duty rates.
The EU Council decided to amend the European Commission’s proposal by adding two products to the list targeted by a tariff increase: beet pulp (in pellets) and split peas. This is in addition to cereals, oilseeds and by-products.
The tariffs proposed by the Commission have been maintained, i.e. €95 per tonne, or 50% of the price, depending on the product. However, linseed will be subject to progressive duties, according to the text due to be adopted by the EU Council on 30 May. (Original version in French by Léa Marchal)
