22/05/24 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday 21 May, the European Union noted with concern the closure of six branches of the Serbian Postal Savings Bank operating in four Serb-majority municipalities in the north of Kosovo. They fear renewed tensions following Kosovo’s decision to impose the use of the euro by banning transactions in Serbian dinars on its territory (see EUROPE 13411/12). “The closure and confiscation of these offices without prior notice or coordination and only a few days after the last Dialogue meeting, which also covered the question of the premises of the Postal Savings Bank, is escalatory and goes against the spirit of normalisation” of relations between Kosovo and Serbia, said European External Action Service spokesperson Peter Stano in a statement. He urged both parties to return to the negotiating table and accept the compromise proposal that has been put forward by the EU. (MB)
