22/05/2024 (Agence Europe) – The regulation on the European Digital Identity (EiD) Wallet officially entered into force on Monday 20 May. The text, the result of a provisional agreement, was endorsed by the EU Council on 26 March. It provides that every EU citizen has the opportunity to have a secure digital wallet in order to access most online services using a digital identification recognised throughout the EU. This identification should also make it possible to open bank accounts, make payments and store all digital documents centrally. Member States, for their part, will have to designate accredited public and private bodies to certify wallets. It is up to the user to decide whether or not to share their personal data. These wallets must be in place in every EU Member State by 2026. See the text: https://aeur.eu/f/cbv (IS)
