17/05/24 (Agence Europe) – The European Commission is pursuing its trade defence policy with two notices of initiation of anti-dumping and anti-subsidy investigations published on Friday 17 May. The same week, it opened two further investigations (see EUROPE 13411/18) and extended a series of tariffs to new countries (see EUROPE 13410/34). This time it is Chinese iron or steel tubes and pipes that are targeted by the anti-dumping investigation, while Indian fibre optic cables are targeted by the anti-subsidy investigation. These two product categories were the subject of a request for investigation by European producer representatives in April 2024. The European Commission is of the opinion that there was sufficient evidence of potential unfair competition in both cases. Interested parties who wish to submit comments for the enquiry now have 36 days in which to do so. See the notices in respect of opening the enquiry: https://aeur.eu/f/c91 ; https://aeur.eu/f/c92 (LM)
