02/04/2024 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday 2 April, the European Commission announced that it had added ‘Abricot des Baronnies’ to the Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) register at EU level. The ‘Abricot des Baronnies’ is a fresh fruit grown in France in the foothills of the Alps. Located in the south of the Drôme department, with communes bordering the Vaucluse and Hautes-Alpes departments, the geographical area has been defined taking into account the historical, geographical and geomorphological criteria characteristic of the Baronnies region. This area is also based on the historical development of ‘Abricots des Baronnies’ production. All stages - from planting to harvesting - are carried out in this area, which covers 87 communes. This fruit is enjoyed fresh, but also in the form of nectars, jams, compotes and even beauty products. (LC)
