Enlargement requires a review of EU budget spending, stresses European Commission

The enlargement of the EU to include new member countries provides an opportunity to re-examine all key policy and spending areas (agriculture and rural development, cohesion, connectivity, migration and border management), according to a European Commission Communication adopted on Wednesday 20 March on pre-enlargement reforms and policy reviews.

EU policies and programmes may therefore have to be rethought with a view to the next Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF) (post-2027),...
