Following the United Kingdom’s association with the EU’s framework programme for research and innovation Horizon Europe (see EUROPE 13306/14), the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) announced on Tuesday, 12 March, the opening of an EIT hub in the United Kingdom, the EIT Hub UK, to act as a bridge between the research and innovation ecosystem in Europe and the ecosystem based in the United Kingdom. A launch event took place that same day.
The hub will bring together start-ups, larger companies, research institutions, and other stakeholders.
The EIT emphasises that the hub will moreover provide support—through programmes and events—to entrepreneurs and innovators with projects so as to help them develop. Other initiatives, such as matchmaking activities and immersion visits, will also be organised and announced very soon on the dedicated page.
The initiative is not starting from scratch: in fact, the EIT points out that the EIT community already worked with more than 110 British partners in 2021 and 2022.
The EIT Hub UK exists within the framework of the EIT’s ‘Global Outreach’ programme, which was launched in 2018. This programme also includes the EIT hub in Tel Aviv, Israel, and the EIT hub in Silicon Valley in the United States.
