12/03/24 (Agence Europe) – Meeting in plenary session on Tuesday 12 March, MEPs voted overwhelmingly in favour of the text of the provisional agreement on cyber resilience legislation (‘Cyber Resilience Act’ or ‘CRA’) (see EUROPE 13305/1), with 517 votes in favour, 12 against and 78 abstentions. The aim of the CRA is to eliminate vulnerabilities in products with digital functionalities by introducing mandatory cybersecurity requirements for their design, development, production and availability. Thus, “all digital elements available on the market that can have a direct or indirect data connection with a device or network” should be made available by manufacturers “without any known exploitable vulnerability”. The agreement still has to be validated by the Member States before it can come into force. (IS)
