26/02/2024 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 26 February, the EU Council adopted the new ‘Prüm II’ regulation extending the categories of data that can be exchanged automatically for the purposes of police cooperation (see EUROPE 13297/22). The legislation adopted will enable police authorities, inter alia, to search facial images and police records. If national legislation permits, it will also be possible to search all categories of data to find missing persons or identify human remains. Europol will also be able to query national databases to cross-check information received from third countries. The new law will enter into force on the twentieth day following its publication in the Official Journal of the EU. (PLD)
