22/02/24 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday 22 February, by 29 votes with one against and nine abstentions, the members of the Committee on Internal Market and Consumer Protection (IMCO) approved the text of the provisional agreement on the single market emergency instrument - renamed the ‘Internal Market Emergency and Resilience Act’ (IMERA). The text’s rapporteur, Andreas Schwab (EPP, German), wanted to express his appreciation for the intense parliamentary activity that had enabled the dossier to move forward rapidly, while emphasising that there was still work to be done. “We have not managed to achieve all the objectives we set ourselves, and we are aware of this. But this is a first step and others will follow”, he said ahead of the vote. The text must now be approved in plenary, probably in March. (IS)
