22/02/2024 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday 22 February, the European Commission announced that the German online retailer Zalando had undertaken to remove from its website “misleading sustainability flags and icons displayed next to products offered”. The brand had introduced a system of environmental icons, which were criticised by several national consumer protection authorities for making misleading claims. Instead, Zalando will have to provide clear information on the environmental benefits of products, such as the percentage of recycled materials used, and will no longer be able to use the term ‘sustainability’. The icons will be removed from the Zalando website from 15 April. (IS)
