15/02/24 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday 15 February, the EurEau organisation expressed its deep concern over the news that the European Commission is to postpone publication of the Water Resilience Initiative. “In times when an increasing number of regions struggle to meet society’s water needs, this sends a negative signal to farmers, industry, tourism, water suppliers and, last but not least, nature itself“, laments EurEau. The initiative was announced for 12 March and could be adopted before the summer, although this remains uncertain. Several Member States (Portugal, Cyprus, Italy, Hungary and Romania) - ReWaterEU initiative - have long called for a water resilience strategy and action plan, as have MEPs (see EUROPE 13345/3, 13329/2).
