15/02/24 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday 14 February, the ambassadors of the Member States to the European Union (Coreper) approved the political agreement between the European Parliament and the EU Council on the ‘Ukraine Facility’, the instrument that will make it possible to implement the EU’s macro-financial assistance to Ukraine of up to €50 billion until 2027 (see EUROPE 13344/18). In a declaration attached to the legislative text, the European Parliament, the EU Council and the European Commission stress the exceptional and specific nature of this new macrofinancial assistance to Ukraine, which should not be seen as a precedent for future EU macro-financial assistance to third countries. See the legislative text setting up the ‘Ukraine Facility’, which will be voted on by the European Parliament at the end of February so that the first bridging finance payments can be made in March: https://aeur.eu/f/avf (MB)
