25/01/2024 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday 23 January, MEPs on the Committee on the Internal Market and Consumer Protection approved the Interinstitutional Agreement reached by the European Parliament and the Council of the EU on 6 November on the transparency and targeting of political advertising (see EUROPE 13287/1) (33 votes in favour, one against and eight abstentions). The agreement will be put to the vote at the European Parliament plenary session in Strasbourg from 26 to 29 February. As a reminder, the text includes provisions designed to combat disinformation and foreign interference (FIMI), to help voters recognise political advertisements and know who has funded them, and to protect citizens' personal data.
