EU fishermen criticise France’s decision to ban fishing for a month to protect dolphins

On Monday 22 January, European fishermen, represented within the European Association of Fish Producers’ Organisations (EAPO) and Europêche, criticised the French decision to ban fishing for a month (22 January-20 February) in the Bay of Biscay in order to curb the accidental capture of dolphins and porpoises in the Atlantic Ocean.

The measure concerns French fishing boats of eight metres or more equipped with certain nets (pelagic trawl, bottom pair trawl, trammel net, set gillnet)...
