Brussels, 16/01/2024 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday 16 January, the European Commission approved the inclusion in the register of protected geographical indications (PGIs) of ‘Limburgse vlaai’, a sweet baked tart from the Netherlands and Belgium. It is a round, golden, baked sweet tart with abundant fillings of a wide variety and different types of top crust always baked at the same time as the tart serving as the base. It is a sweet leavened dough, with a texture comparable to that of bread dough. The filling can be made with fruit, rice pudding, custard, semolina, cottage cheese, sugar and eggs, or a combination of these ingredients. This new designation will be added to the list of 1,683 agricultural products already protected at EU level. (LC)
