Jan-Christoph Oetjen becomes European Parliament Vice-President

16/01/2024 (Agence Europe)On Tuesday 16 January, MEPs elected Jan-Christoph Oetjen (Renew Europe, German) by acclamation as Vice-President of the European Parliament, replacing his compatriot Nicola Beer, who has been appointed Vice-President of the EIB. The day before, the European Parliament had announced the departure, in addition to Ms Beer, of Stéphane Séjourné (Renew Europe, French), appointed Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, and Radosław Sikorski (EPP, Polish), appointed Minister for Foreign Affairs. Mr Séjourné has been temporarily replaced at the head of the Renew Europe group by the Dutchman Malik Azmani (see EUROPE 13327/8). The following have also joined Parliament: - Krzysztof Brejza (EPP, Polish), who will sit on the Committee on Foreign Affairs (AFET) and the Subcommittee on Security and Defence (SEDE); - Michael Kauch (Renew Europe, German), who will sit on the Industry and Research Committee; - Esther Sanz Selva (The Left, Spanish), who will sit on the Committee on Petitions.
