On Monday 15 January, the NGO Corporate Europe Observatory (CEO) asked the European Commission to investigate the lobbying activities of European Livestock Voice (ELV).
ELV is an EU-wide campaign launched in 2019 by livestock industry groups including EU farming organisations and cooperatives (Copa-Cogeca), the European Dairy Association, AnimalhealthEurope (pharmaceutical industry) and others.
In December 2023, DeSmog reported that ELV is being used by its industry members to resist efforts to reduce antibiotic use on farms. ELV’s website does not contain information on its financing and ELV is not listed in the EU transparency register. “We have written to the European institutions to demand an investigation into how ELV is influencing their work, and efforts to ensure that ELV is not able to lobby MEPs, Commissioners, and officials without being registered”, explains CEO.
CEO advocates a legally binding lobby register with compulsory registration. (Original version in French by Lionel Changeur)
