04/01/2024 (Agence Europe) – On 26 December, Serbia announced that it would allow cars with Kosovo number plates (see EUROPE 13070/31) to enter its territory from 1 January. “The authorisation given to all vehicles to travel [...] is a purely practical decision to facilitate people’s freedom of movement and cannot be interpreted as recognition of the unilaterally proclaimed independence of so-called Kosovo”, commented the head of the Serbian office for Kosovo, Petar Petković. In 2011, under the aegis of the EU, Belgrade agreed to recognise Kosovo’s number plates and vice versa. However, the decision was never fully implemented. (TM)
