04/01/2024 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday 4 January, the European Commission announced that it had authorised a French aid scheme of €450 million to promote the development of the forestry sector while improving forests’ capacity to adapt to climate change. The measure will be open to all private and public companies active in the forestry sector. The aid will reach eligible companies in the form of direct grants. The measure will be in place until 31 December 2029. The Commission found the scheme to be compatible with the European rules on State aid, and in particular with Article 107(3)(c) of the Treaty on the Functioning of the EU and the guidelines for State aid in the agriculture and forestry sectors and in rural areas.
