04/01/2024 (Agence Europe) – The Agency for the Cooperation of Energy Regulators (ACER) decided on 22 December that there was no need to explore other configurations of electricity bidding zones in the Baltic region, following a procedure initiated on 26 September 2023. Bidding zones, defined by national borders, facilitate the exchange of energy in Europe without capacity allocation. ACER’s decision, informed by comments from stakeholders and information from transmission system operators, confirms that the current configuration of the Baltic bidding zone is adequate. Although no immediate changes are deemed necessary, future reviews could be envisaged to analyse potential mergers of the Baltic bidding zones. To see the ACER publication: https://aeur.eu/f/aa4 (PLD)
