05/12/2023 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 4 December, the ambassadors of the EU Member States meeting within the Political and Security Committee decided to appoint the Czech diplomat Jan Vyčítal as Head of the European Union Border Assistance Mission in Libya (EUBAM Libya). Mr Vyčítal, currently his country’s ambassador to Tunisia and Libya, will take up his post on 1 January 2024 for an initial period up to 30 June 2025. EUBAM Libya’s mandate also runs until 30 June 2025 (see EUROPE 13210/41). Mr Vyčítal will replace Italy’s Natalina Cea, who took up her post on 1 February 2021. On 5 December, EU High Representative Josep Borrell met with Mousa Al-Koni, Vice-President of the Libyan Presidential Council, to discuss ways of strengthening cooperation in key areas, including improving governance and migration management.
