28/11/23 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday 28 November, the members of the European Parliament’s Committee on the Internal Market and Consumer Protection (IMCO) approved almost unanimously (39 votes in favour, none against and one abstention) the provisional political agreement reached with the Council and the European Commission on the proposal for a directive empowering consumers for the green transition through better protection against unfair practices and better information (see EUROPE 13254/6). The interinstitutional agreement provides for adequate information on the durability and reparability of products and greater protection against greenwashing and premature obsolescence of products (amendment of the Consumer Rights (2011/83/EU) and Unfair Commercial Practices (2005/29/EC) Directives).
