23/11/2023 (Agence Europe) – Looking ahead to the European elections in June 2024, the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) and the 27 national committees made a commitment at their annual meeting on 16 and 17 November, organised by the Spanish committee, to be involved in informing citizens about the importance of the forthcoming elections, to better combat disinformation and to serve as platforms for conveying citizens’ concerns and expectations to decision-makers in the European Union, including during Civil Society Week, which will take place from 4 to 7 March 2024. Committed to socially just climate and digital transitions, the EESC and the national committees are highlighting the potential of participatory democracy to improve the decision-making process at national and European level, in particular through the creation of citizens’ panels on specific issues.
