The European Commissioner for Energy, Kadri Simson, visited Mozambique from 21 to 23 November to attend the first Global Gateway investment forum between the EU and Mozambique and to meet the national authorities to discuss the energy transition, cooperation and investment in the sector.
At the forum, which took place on Tuesday 21 November, the Commissioner signed the Global Gateway Flagships, which aim to deepen the partnership in the field of energy, improve grids in Mozambique and boost youth employment.
It was “an important moment and milestone in our partnership”, Ms Simson said via the X social network.
She then met representatives from the energy sector to discuss liquefied natural gas (LNG) projects in Mozambique.
“The EU is interested in a well-supplied, open and diversified global LNG market”, said the Commissioner. “Mozambique has big gas reservoirs and an interest to become a major player in this sector”.
Finally, among her many bilateral meetings, Ms Simson had talks with Carlos Zacarias, Mozambique’s Minister for Mineral Resources and Energy, to discuss LNG, the development of renewable energies and grids in greater detail, and to invite Mozambique to join the global commitments made at COP28.
