On Thursday 23 November, the European Commission launched the ‘Harnessing Talent Platform’, a new hub for sharing best practice “that will help EU regions to attract and retain people with the skills needed to mitigate the impact of the demographic transition”.
This platform will ensure that the regions concerned receive the advice, information and knowledge they need to design, consolidate, develop and implement appropriate, comprehensive strategies for training, attracting and retaining talent, according to the Commission.
The Commission has also announced the selection of 10 regions under Pillar 1 of the Talent Booster Mechanism. These regions will receive the technical assistance and expertise they need to attract, develop and retain talent. These are the Alentejo region in Portugal, Champagne-Ardenne in France, the Dél-Dunántúl region in Hungary, mainland Croatia, the Łódź Voivodeship in Poland, the Peloponnese in Greece, Puglia in Italy, Saxony-Anhalt in Germany, Vest in Romania and the Yugoiztochen region in Bulgaria.
In December 2023, the Commission will launch a call under Pillar 2, targeting 36 regions at risk of falling into the ‘talent development trap’ – a decline in their working-age population and a stagnant number of people with tertiary education.
