The “Commission will provide financial support of more than €250 million to its Member States to strengthen the management of migration flows”, according to a press release.
The institution organised two calls for projects in February, inviting EU Member States to submit applications for funding under the Home Affairs Funds.
The Commission will provide €141 million for fibre optics and software to improve the exchange and processing of data between border posts and command centres (Bulgaria, Croatia, Greece, Lithuania and Hungary), electronic surveillance equipment at border posts (Bulgaria, Latvia and Lithuania) and the deployment of mobile detection equipment (Bulgaria, Lithuania and Greece) under the Border and Visa Management Instrument (BVI).
The €118 million appeal under the Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund (AMIF) “ will support unaccompanied minors by financing additional staff and training for guardians (Belgium, Cyprus, Slovakia and Spain) as well as foster care/family care, community care and semi-autonomous living arrangements for adolescents (Bulgaria, Cyprus, Greece, Italy and Spain)”.
It will also strengthen border reception facilities, financing the renovation of existing reception centres (Italy, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland) and the construction of new reception centres (Cyprus and Italy). (Original version in French by Solenn Paulic)
