Launched at the end of October, a call for applications will run until 30 November with the aim of bringing together a panel of experts to assist the Commission and the European executive in implementing the legislative acts of the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) (see EUROPE 13164/12).
The group will be made up of representatives of the 27 Member States, as well as members of NGOs, think-tanks and industry groups, who are invited to put forward their names. It should also act as an advisor to the Commission, providing expertise when drafting implementing measures for future texts.
The transitional phase of CBAM came into force on 1 October (see EUROPE 13261/23). Until the beginning of 2026, importers will only have to declare the volume of emissions contained in the products they bring onto the European market (and covered by the CBAM regulation). After this date, they will have to pay for CBAM certificates for imported carbon emissions.
The group is due to operate until the end of the first quarter of 2026, at which point the need to extend its working period will be assessed.
