06/11/2023 (Agence Europe) – Negotiations between the European Parliament and the Spanish Presidency of the EU Council will begin on Tuesday 7 November on the reform of the Schengen Borders Code (see EUROPE 13265/28). The Council of the EU adopted its mandate in June 2022 and Parliament adopted its position on 20 September (see EUROPE 13255/4). This first meeting will serve to present the respective positions, while the most difficult discussions are expected to be around the question of how to re-establish and extend internal border controls. Parliament also deleted references to the instrumentalisation of migration, proposed by the Commission and retained by the Member States. (SP)
