European Commission to present 12th sanctions package this week

The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, announced in Ukraine on Saturday 4 November that the European Commission would be announcing the twelfth set of sanctions against Russia this week.

It will include the inclusion of up to 100 new names on the sanctions list, new import and export restrictions, measures to strengthen oil price caps and tough measures against third country companies that circumvent sanctions”, she said. At the European summit on 26 and 27 October, Ms von der Leyen also mentioned revenues from the diamond trade (see EUROPE 13281/1).

According to the President, the new names will include people involved in the military invasion and occupation of the country, the brutal abduction of children and the propagation of false information and propaganda.

We are working closely with our G7 partners on all these issues”, said Ms von der Leyen. (Original version in French by Camille-Cerise Gessant)
