06/11/2023 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday 1 November, the EU and some twenty countries, including China and the United States, pledged to take “international action” to combat the potential dangers posed by certain artificial intelligence (AI) systems (see EUROPE 13284/15). Adopted at the first global summit on AI held in the UK, the Bletchley Declaration calls for particular emphasis to be placed on the risks associated with cybersecurity, biotechnology and disinformation, which the signatories consider to be areas of “particular concern”. This is a “landmark achievement that sees the world’s greatest AI powers agree on the urgency behind understanding the risks of AI – helping ensure the long-term future of our children and grandchildren”, commented UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak after the summit.
