29/09/23 (Agence Europe) – The North Atlantic Council, which met on Friday 29 September, expressed its deep concern at the worsening tensions in the north of Kosovo. “We will always take all necessary actions to maintain a safe and secure environment and freedom of movement for all people living in Kosovo”, said the allies. These statements come at a time when the situation - already extremely complex in this region of the Balkans (see EUROPE 13250/13) - has become even more tense after a Kosovar policeman was killed by a group of Serbian gunmen on 24 September in the north of Kosovo (see EUROPE 13257/21). “We call on all parties to urgently de-escalate. We continue to urge Belgrade and Pristina to engage in the EU-facilitated dialogue”, they added, specifying that “adjustments” to the Kosovo Force (KFOR) would be implemented “as required”. (TM)
