23/08/23 (Agence Europe) – On 17 August, NATO announced the extension of its advisory and capacity-building mission in Iraq with the Ministry of the Interior and the Federal Police Command, following an Iraqi request and a decision by the North Atlantic Council. The mission, which was established in 2018, will fulfil this role in complementarity with the support provided by other countries and international organisations. It already advises Iraqi defence and security officials at the Ministry of Defence, the Office of the National Security Advisor and the Prime Minister’s National Operations Centre. The mission also advises Iraq’s professional military education institutions in the greater Baghdad area. (CG)
