19/07/23 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday 19 July, members of the European Parliament’s Committee on Industry, Research and Energy (ITRE) approved (63 votes for, 2 against, 7 abstentions) the provisional political agreement reached by the European Parliament and the EU Council on the Data Act on the night of 27-28 June (see EUROPE 13211/19). As a reminder, the text provides, among other things, for users of connected devices to be able to access the data they generate and change their cloud data processing provider more easily. Other provisions should also serve to protect trade secrets, regulate access to data held by the private sector for the public sector, and prevent unfair contractual clauses imposed unilaterally by a company in a dominant position on a market on another company.
